"Burnsong is a fitting testimony to the quality and diversity of Scots songwriting talent today"
Iain Anderson, BBC Radio Scotland

Songs are at the heart of contemporary Scottish culture. From the historic fame of Robert Burns, to the unknown singer pouring her life and heart into song in her bedroom, to the global commercial successes of Scottish bands and artists, songs matter to people in Scotland.

BURNSONG celebrates the art and power of songwriting in Scotland.

Since 2005, we have supported:

  • THE GATHERING
An open search for new, undiscovered songwriting talent in Scotland and beyond, culminating in a showcase performance of winning songs.

  • THE SONGHOUSE
Week-long collaborative residential songwriting retreats, bringing together professional songwriting talent from Scotland and beyond, followed by live performances of brand new songs created.

  • BURNS AND RIVERS
Educational projects with children and young people and a songwriting teaching resource for schools.

  • SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS & CONFERENCES
For songwriters at all stages wishing to develop their craft and expand their music business connections.

“A fantastic experience.  Hard work, great fun and ultimately very fruitful both creatively and from a career perspective.”
Ziggy Campbell, The Songhouse 2007

“It has had an incredible influence on my musical life. For the first time ever, I was given the confidence and ‘permission’ to write in a way which I had hitherto been afraid to do.”
Fiona J Mackenzie, former Màiri Mhòr Gaelic Song Fellow, The Gathering 2009

“Burnsong has been hugely positive not just for individual songwriters but for the Scottish music scene as a whole. There’s collaborative fluidity and creativity right across musical styles right now. And genuine respect. Burnsong has been part of the process of making that a reality for me.”
Karine Polwart, The Songhouse 2006

"Eclectic and inventive, Burnsong has for several years nurtured and supported individual and collaborative Scots songwriting and performing"
Stewart Cruickshank, Producer, The Iain Anderson Show
